When were my tyres manufactured?

If your tyres were produced in 2000 or later, the last four (4) digits of the serial code identify the week and year of production. For example, a tyre with a serial code ending in “2417” was produced in the 24th week of 2017. If your tyres were produced prior to 2000, the last three (3) digits of the serial code identify the week and year of production. For example, a tyre with a code ending in “329” was produced in the 32nd week of a year ending with a nine (9). If in doubt, consult a qualified tyre service professional.

Product Maintenance Information

If I purchase a tyre in-store, can I mount it onto the wheel myself?

Removing and replacing tires on wheels can be dangerous. Attempting to mount tyres with improper tools or procedures may result in a tyre explosion causing serious personal injury or death. This is only a job for a qualified tyre service professional. Never perform tyre service procedures without proper training, tools, and equipment. For a qualified tyre service professional, please contact your nearest authorised Bridgestone Rdealer by visiting our store locator here.

How often should I check my air pressure?

Check the air pressure in your tyres (including spares) monthly and before long trips or carrying extra weight. Be sure to use an accurate pressure gauge. Check inflation pressure when the tyres are “cold.” Tyres are considered “cold” when the vehicle has been parked for three hours or more, or if the vehicle has been driven less than 1.6 km at moderate speed.

If you have further questions concerning Tyre Pressure please contact Technical Service at (65) 6777 4181 (Ext.5).

How much pressure should I put in my tyres?

Always keep the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended inflation pressure in your tyres, including the spare. Check the pressure in your tyres monthly and before long trips or carrying extra weight.

If you have further questions concerning Tyre Pressure please contact Technical Service at (65) 6777 4181 (Ext.5).

What does speed rating mean?

A tyre bearing a letter “speed rating” indicates the tyre’s speed capability according to standardised lab tests. The speed rating system is intended to permit comparison of the speed capabilities of different tyres. When replacing your tyres, consult your vehicle owner’s manual and tyre information placard for recommendations, if any, concerning the use of speed rated tyres.

If you have further questions concerning Speed Rating please contact Technical Service at (65) 6777 4181 (Ext.5).

What should I do if the cords on my tyres are visible?

If you see damage or an unusual condition, have your tire inspected by a qualified tire service professional. It may be necessary to have it removed from the wheel for a complete inspection.

If you have further questions concerning Tyre Conditions please contact Technical Service at (65) 6777 4181 (Ext.5).

What is Bridgestone's opinion on Nitrogen use in tyres?

Nitrogen is an acceptable inflation gas for use in Bridgestone passenger, light truck, and truck tyres. Bridgestone has no comment on the various performance claims made by Nitrogen suppliers.

Can I mount my own tyre on the wheel?

Removing and replacing tyres on wheels can be dangerous. Attempting to mount tyres with improper tools or procedures may result in a tyre explosion causing serious personal injury or death. This is only a job for a qualified tyre service professional. Never perform tyre service procedures without proper training, tools, and equipment. For a qualified tyre service professional, please contact your nearest authorised Bridgestone dealer by visiting our store locator.

Run-Flat Tyres (RFT)

How do I identify RFT?

Bridgestone brand Run-Flat Tyres are marked on the sidewalls, near the wheel, with the RFT logo.

What is the recommended inflation pressure for RFT tyres?

Follow your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation for inflation pressure settings as indicated on the vehicle tyre information placard and/or in the vehicle owner’s manual. Like other tyres, RFT tyres need proper inflation pressure maintenance for safe operation and to achieve maximum tyre life and performance. Check inflation pressures monthly and before long trips or carrying extra weight. Use an accurate tyre gauge and check pressures when the tyres are cold. Tyres are considered “cold” when the vehicle has been parked for three hours or more, or if the vehicle has been driven less than 1.6 km at moderate speed.

If you have further questions concerning Tyre Pressure please contact Technical Service (65) 6777 4181 (Ext.5).

Can I mix RFT tyres and Conventional tyres?

Do not replace or mix RFT with conventional tyres, unless on an emergency/temporary basis. Conventional tyres do not have run-flat capability and the handling characteristics of the vehicle with these tyres may be different. If a conventional tyre is used on an emergency/temporary basis, verify that its size, load capacity, inflation pressure, and speed rating specifications meet the requirements of the vehicle. Replace any conventional tyre with the proper RFT as soon as possible.

If you have further questions concerning Tyre Application please contact Technical Service (65) 6777 4181 (Ext.5).

Is a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) necessary for use with RFT?

A functioning Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) must be used with your RFT. Because these tyres ride so well even without inflation pressure, the TPMS may be necessary to alert you of an inflation pressure loss condition. When alerted, follow the instructions in your vehicle owner’s manual.

How far can I drive on Run-Flat Tyres after the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) alert?

Your RFT will be marked on the sidewall with run-flat or low tire pressure operating speed of 80 km/h. If the sidewall indicates a distance limitation, do not exceed that number. If the sidewall does not specify a distance limitation, consult your vehicle owner’s manual as run-flat or low tyre pressure operating limitations vary by tyre design and vehicle applications.

Note: Maximum distance values are determined under controlled conditions, which may vary in actual use. Your distance capability may be less, or more, depending on your specific operating conditions. If in doubt, do not exceed the 80 km limitation. Seek tyre service as soon as possible to minimise tyre damage.

Can a puncture in my RFT tyre be repaired?

No tyre, regardless of its design or quality, is indestructible. RFT can be rendered unusable due to a puncture or other road hazard as well as from improper tyre pressure maintenance. Some punctures may be repaired under certain restrictions and prescribed procedures. In addition to low pressure, the factors affecting ability to repair an RFT include: vehicle speed, load, and maneuvering; the amount of inflation pressure loss; and ambient temperature.

In any situation, the extent and location of a puncturing object or other road hazard are also critical factors. Run-Flat Certified Dealers will fully inspect your tyre, inside and out, to determine if the tyre can be repaired. Tyre damage is not always visible from the outside and the tyre must be removed from the wheel for a complete inspection.

Note: Some vehicle manufacturers do not recommend using repaired tyres. Consult your vehicle owner’s manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer before operating a vehicle that has a repaired tyre.

If you have further questions concerning repairing run-flats please contact Technical Service at (65) 6777 4181 (Ext.5).

What is a TPMS?

The purpose of the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) in your vehicle is to warn the driver that one or more tires is/are significantly under-inflated and creating an unsafe driving condition. The TPMS low tire pressure indicator is a yellow symbol that illuminates on the dashboard instrument panel in the shape of a tire cross-section (that resembles a horseshoe) with an exclamation point.

Is a TPMS required for Run-Flat Tyres?

Yes. A functioning tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) must be used with your RFT tyres. Because these tyres ride so well, even without inflation pressure, a TPMS may be necessary to alert the driver that they have lost air pressure.

Do all vehicles come equipped with a TPMS?

Please check with your vehicle manufacturer or distributor for more information.

What should I do when the TPMS light comes on?

Reduce speed as much as safely and reasonably possible; do not exceed (80 km/h. The greater the speed, the less distance the tyre can travel.

Avoid abrupt or aggressive acceleration, braking, or cornering maneuvers as much as safely and reasonably possible. Potholes and other road hazards should be avoided. Careful driving limits potential damage to the tyre, wheel, and vehicle.

Proceed to a safe and convenient location for tyre service as soon as possible. Take note of your odometer; your operation distance is limited. Do not exceed 80 kilometres in run-flat or low pressure operation.

If an unusual vibration or vehicle handling difficulty arises, stop driving as soon as safely and reasonably possible. The tyre may be about to suddenly fail. Release the accelerator and gradually reduce speed. The tyre must be replaced before proceeding.

Do not touch a tyre recently run-low or run-flat (it may be very hot). Allow the tyre to cool before handling.

How will I know if I get a puncture or start losing air in my tyres?

The TPMS should alert you. See the next question for more details.

How will I know when my 80 km ends?

Take note of your odometer when your TPMS light comes on. We suggest that you set your tripometer to zero (if available) when the TPMS goes off in order to help you estimate your distance traveled.
