How to Choose Truck Tires
Truck tires are designed to help you get the most out of your vehicle and take on the various terrains you may encounter. Some are optimized to provide good off-road traction, some are designed for smooth on-road handling and some offer a balance between the two. Whether you are exploring the great outdoors, hauling heavy loads, or simply want to enjoy a smooth ride on the highway, every truck driver has a different driving style and performance needs from their tires.
There are many options when it comes to truck tires, and when deciding what truck tires are right for you, you should take into account what kind of performance you value in your driving experience.
There are three basic types of truck tires:
- Highway
- All-Terrain
- Max-Traction (“Mud Tires”)
HIGHWAY TRUCK TIRES
Highway truck tires are specifically developed to enhance highway performance, long wear, low noise and ride comfort. Most H/T tires provide all-season type of traction in dry, wet and winter conditions and typically get better gas mileage than all-terrain or M/T tires. These truck tires are built for crossover and sport utility vehicles, as well as pick-up trucks and full-size vans. If a gravel driveway or grass field tailgate is the closest your truck will get to an off-road journey, a highway all-season truck tire may be most suited for your driving needs. Check out the Dueler H/L Alenza Plus. It could be the perfect tire to provide your CUV or SUV with a quiet and comfortable highway ride.

ALL-TERRAIN TRUCK TIRES
If you want truck tires with good on-road wear and off-road capability, the Dueler A/T Revo 2 is an impressive tire with considerable all-terrain capability. It provides good handling and a smooth ride in even the toughest road conditions, and can handle heavy loads. Its well balanced tread design makes the road less traveled more comfortable than ever before. All-terrain truck tires feature a more aggressive tread design, which promotes increased traction when off the pavement. They will usually or often feature deeper tread depth, wider tread grooves, and larger tread block elements than a highway truck tire for increased traction capabilities when driving off road or on unpaved roads. All-terrain truck tires are generally made with tread compounds which are optimized to withstand chipping and tearing from rough road and hauling conditions, while still providing on-road wear and traction characteristics desired by versatile drivers.

MAX TRACTION TRUCK TIRES (“MUD TIRES”)
If you find yourself taking on soft, muddy, or even rocky off-road terrains you might want to consider max traction (M/T) truck tires (sometimes called mud tires.) These truck tires typically come in larger sizes and feature tread lugs that grip into muddy or loose surfaces to provide maximum traction on these difficult terrains. This feature of the tire helps thrust the truck through muddy ruts and over slippery rocks. For some drivers, the rough and tough sound and aggressive look of M/T truck tires is a way to personalize their ride. So whether you want an aggressive truck tire for how it looks on the streets or for its capability of handling rough terrains, max traction truck tires could be the perfect choice.
