From the early of 20th century, Harvey Samuel Firestone took the first steps on tire industry. Early in August 1900, he bought an old foundry building in Akron, Ohio and started the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, with 17 employees. His tire business was developing because he applied some right business strategies such as collaborating with Henry Ford. By the 1920s, Firestone had become a world leader in tires and had a nationwide chain of retail stores. A few decades later, the revenue of Firestone continued to increase. In 1935, the revenue reached at the impressive growth – $121 million.

The oil crisis in 1970s resulted in the decline of revenue of Firestone; people start to tighten the purse strings. Besides, more and more people had interest in Japanese and European cars.

At that time, in Japan, Bridgestone Corporation was developing significantly. The more the number of American customers went up, the more the demand of using tires went up too. Bridgestone’s business strategy was expanding the American market.

Bridgestone Corporation purchased Firestone in 1988 for $2.6 billion, transforming the companies’ combined operations into the world’s largest tire and Rubber Company.

After that, Bridgestone applied the $1.5 billion reconstruction campaign for Firestone in 3 years. Bridgestone provided modern tire technology, handed over manufacturing technology…  After 3 years, Bridgestone decreased the Firestone’s low-quality products, expanded the Bridgestone tires production in many countries, improved the quality of Firestone products… Until now, not only developing Bridgestone products, Bridgestone Corporation always improve the quality of Firestone tires. Bridgestone tires or Firestone tires, both are the products of Bridgestone Corporation, affected the business philosophy of the Bridgestone’s founder – Shojiro Ishibashi, and be the whole of Bridgestone Corporation’s exertion to bring the most qualified tires for customers.
